If you have an illness like osteoporosis, you undoubtedly feel alone at times. You are probably the only person in your family who suffers from it, and it can be lonely to think that no one else knows what it feels like to have brittle bones and to have to avoid doing certain things because you are at a high risk of fractures.

As a caregiver to someone with osteoporosis, you might be looking for ways to make your aging loved one feel less alone. One way to do this is to remind them that they are not suffering alone, and that you are there for them. Another way, though, is to remind them that many famous people suffer from osteoporosis as well! That way, when they watch a film or a television show, they can see someone who is like them, and who can inspire them to keep living a healthy, successful life.

Here are just a few examples of female celebrities who have osteoporosis:

Blythe Danner
Blythe Danner, who has starred in such films as The Price of Tides, The Great Santini, and the Meet the Parents series, as well as television shows such as Will and Grace, is a huge advocate for osteoporosis. Since being diagnosed with the disease herself, she has been in several television commercials for osteoporosis medications, and often speaks out about her struggles and what it is like to live with osteoporosis.

Gwyneth Paltrow
Blythe Danner’s daughter, Gwyneth Paltrow, also claims to suffer from the beginning stages of osteoporosis. She, too, has had a great and varied film career, and she does not let this illness slow her down. The fact that she was diagnosed with an early form of osteoporosis also proves that this is not an “old woman’s disease” as some might say, and this helps to take away some of the stigma of osteoporosis itself.

Joan Rivers
Joan Rivers was a famous comedienne known for her wit and her crass, sassy way of telling jokes. She didn’t let anyone tell her what to do, and she didn’t let osteoporosis get in the way of her success. Even after her diagnosis, she continued to do the things she loved, and to entertain the world with her jokes and (admittedly mean) fashion advice on television.

Meredith Vieira
Meredith Vieira is one of the most beloved reporters and talk show hosts of all time. She has anchored shows like The Today Show, Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, and even her own talk show. She was fortunate enough to have caught her osteoporosis symptoms early, and keeps them at bay with regular exercise to strengthen her bones and muscles, and by maintaining a healthy diet.

As you can see by this list, a diagnosis of osteoporosis does not in any way signal the end of one’s life or happiness. If you are a caregiver for an aging loved one who suffers from osteoporosis, show them this list of strong, powerful women to let them know they are not alone, and that they are just as strong and powerful and brave as all the women listed above.
