If your dad has dementia, it’s likely that a specialist is involved in his care. Often, a memory care center pairs people with dementia with a social worker or therapist. Talk to the therapist about your dad’s immediate needs and where care needs may go in the future.
Weigh the Pros and Cons
Once you have an idea on the care your dad needs, everyone should create a list of pros and cons. Discuss these together. If a family mediator is needed for neutral input, make sure one is present.
Ask Your Dad What He Thinks
Few aging adults love the idea of having a home care aide coming into their home. Your dad may be reluctant. That’s normal. Get his input. You may have to ask him to give it a trial week or two.
